Wake up call and Fasting update

Hey now everyone. So yesterday I received some disappointing news.
I had some blood work done and found out that my triglycerides and vldl levels are extremely high. Ironically, my cholesterol was normal and my LDLs were very low which is good but unusual with the prior findings. Pretty much what this means to me is I have to make some serious changes. I was expecting my health not to be optimal especially these past few months in which I have put on substantial weight. However, I was taken back and very concerned. The physician advised me to exercise more, cut out red meat, and try to return to my typical weight. This is the wake up call I needed to get back into a routine exercise program. I also plan on cutting out alcohol at least for 3 months to see if this helps. I will try to limit my red meat consumption and take it easy on the eggs. I love eggs, the girls room ,the Amanda show style lol.

As for the intermittent fasting I tried this week, it was a total fail. I ended up binge eating after my eating hours and overall, not for me. I’m glad I tried it regardless. Anyways, thanks for checking in. I still need to post the TOP 5s of the week so look out for that post soon. Thanks for reading. Enjoy your weekend and Happy Easter!

Intermittent Fasting

Hey now fellow bloggers! Last week after much consideration and research, I have decided to try intermittent fasting. Today is my first day. What this entails is eating around 500 calories for the whole day on 2 or 3 non-consecutive of the week. This week I have decided to try it on Monday and Wednesday. My eating hours start at 11am until 7pm. I am not sure how this is going to go but I want to try it nonetheless. I know it won’t be easy as I LOVE food and can be an emotional eater. However, I will listen to my body while still trying to persevere through this challenge. I’m going to take it day by day and see how it goes. I will most likely post an update about it later this week with my weekly TOP 5s. If you have ever tried intermittent fasting please let me know. I’d love any tips or advice and would love to hear about your experience. Thanks for reading folks.

St. Patty’s,Top 5s, and Weekly Update.

Hey now and Happy St. Patty’s day lads! I am wearing green today even though I’m not Irish. Does my boyfriend being half Irish count?  I think everyone is Irish on March 17th so enjoy your Irish soda bread, corned beef and cabbage, and libations. Sorry I’m a bit late on the TOP 5s this week…okay a lot late. It may not be obvious but I try REALLY hard to have a variety of TOP 5s choices each week . I typically like what I like and keep it in my routine. That doesn’t mean that I don’t try to love new things either. I love trying new products and have new obsessions all the time but it does take effort and consideration to realize what I really enjoy so I can post them each week.  I know what I LIKE but I don’t know what I WANT. I’m a walking contradiction.  There I said it lol.  Anyways, this past week has been Fan- freaking- tastic. I do not mean that in a sarcastic way at all. Really. I’m serious. It has been a good week, legit.

I lost 4 pounds this week so I guess the m&ms for breakfast wasn’t so bad after all. I also got the job at the hospital! I’m so grateful. I have a ton of testing next week and a couple of orientations coming up. I’ve decided to keep both jobs for now so I can have a steady income. Unfortunately, this means I will NOT be able to march the 10th year anniversary for Fusion Core Drum and Bugle Corp. It is truly bittersweet. I am happy I will have my summer off to do more and work. However, I did want to have that last year even though I was totally DONE from last year. Oh well you never know. Perhaps I can fill a hole towards the end of the season. We shall see. I also finally upgraded my phone from the Samsung Galaxy S4 to the Samsung Galaxy S7. Yeah I know, it’s been a long time coming. Also my bestie came back from Ecuador, had a lovely bday dinner for my mother on Monday, and I finally added some furniture/decor to my place. Everything is coming together. Now that you’re all caught up, here are the TOP 5s of the week.

1. Samsung Galaxy S7– As previously mentioned I have FINALLY upgraded my phone last Friday. So far I am really loving the new model. It is a bit slimmer than my old S4 so it fits in my hand better. The way you can organize apps is very reminiscent of the Iphone but it still has that Android customization ability. It also has the fingerprint lock which is pretty sweet. I also like that you can insert an SD card in this version as the previous S6 did not have that capability. The S7 is also waterproof… well, as waterproof as a phone can get  nowadays. This  constitutes as be able to be submerged in water for about 20 minutes before having water damage. The only setback i think of the S7 is the camera. The quality is not as sharp as the previous S6 so pictures and videos turn out fuzzy. Samsung justified the lowered quality to allow more light to come in the lens for darker settings but I just find it annoying. Though I will say it does smooth out the wrinkles teehee ;). I got lucky and only paid $240 for this brand new spanking phone with my upgrade and 2 year contract. ANNNNNDDD I forgot to mention I received a voucher for a free Virtual Reality Headset with purchase so I’m really excited for that to come in and test it out. I like this phone A LOT and recommend it to any Samsung and Android lovers.

2.Coconut Chips– My food obsession of the week is coconut chips. One of my favorite You-tubers MIMI IKONN has raved about them in her videos and blogs. I purchased a bag of organic coconut chips at Big Lots on Saturday and ate the whole bag in one sitting. They are absolutely delicious. If you like coconut, give them a try.Crunchy and sweet, they will be your new go to snack.

3.Society 6– I recently purchased a tapestry for my place on Amazon from Society 6. Though it was a bit pricey, the quality is impeccable. The material of the fabric is high quality as well as the screen printed image. I checked out their website and they have so many choices of prints and images you can put on practically anything. I am in love with a lot of their products and will definitely be purchasing some more decor items for my place. If you haven’t seen their stuff check them out. You will not be disappointed.

4. Kat Von D Studded Kiss Lipstick in the color LOVECRAFT I had received a sample of this product from Sephora about a year ago. I loved it so much that I purchased a full size. It seems, whenever I hear about a KVD lip products it’s all about LOLITA. LOLITA this, LOLITA that, and while LOLITA is a beautiful color I think LOVECRAFT is underrated. For me LOVECRAFT is  a “your lip color but better” product and who wouldn’t want that. It is subtle and natural but gives a put together, “hey I tried” look. This is now one of my staple and everyday must have products.

5. Hooping– So I picked up hooping after finding a donated large homemade hula hoop. The large size is meant for beginners and boy am I novice. After going to PDF ( Playa Del Fuego),  I learned the better you are the smaller the hoop. While I am no hooping professional I do enjoy the activity. Lately I have been hooping weekly instead of going on the treadmill. I will hoop for 30-35 minutes with an approximate calorie burn of 250 calories according to my Fitbit. While that doesn’t seem like much. Hooping 5-7 times a week for 30 minutes can help you lose 1-2 pounds a week. You can even hoop for 1 hour three times a week and it will have the same effect. I think hooping is fun and easy. I tend to do it as I am watching tv and the time just flies by. I find it way easier and more enjoyable than being on a treadmill for 30-60 minutes. If you want to try something fun that helps with cardio I suggest giving it a try. There are many tutorials online on how to make a homemade hoop or you can also purchase them online. The handmade ones are better because they carry more weight and that increases your aerobic activity. I recommend using a Fitbit or like product to accurately account for your calories burn or you can also do it according to your heart rate and doing some math. But who wants to do that? Certainly not me lol.

Please let me know if try any of the TOP 5s or have any related questions. I also want to mention that I am not paid or sponsored to endorse any of the TOP5 products mentioned. I simply like to share things that I am loving in hopes that others may like them as well or try something new. I try to include links to make some of the items and sites easier to find. As always thanks for reading. Enjoy your week fellow bloggers!

The Truth

The truth is…I may regret this one day.

I think about you night and day.

A love that never was and never came to be.

Was it something real, or was it just me.

It was never a good time for us for many reasons.

You were too young, and I was in a wrong place.

You denied any feelings and I had to let go.

I still wonder today, and I still hope.

I hope that my intuition is true and that one day ,

you will regret this too.

For My Mother on her Birthday

Hey now friends. A while back I read a post from one of the many lovely bloggers I follow on word press. His post was about his father for his birthday. I thought it was very beautiful for him to share his father’s story and to let him know how much he appreciates him. That post left me with such a lasting impression that I have decided to do the same for my mother.

Today is my mother’s birthday. She was born on March 14th in Colombia, 49 years ago. She is the youngest of five siblings. She has three sisters and one brother. She was raised in a very strict household as my grandfather was in the military and my grandmother was a housewife. At the age of 18 my mother left her family and hometown to come to the United States seeking what I assume was a better life. She met friends who quickly became her family. She had her best friend named Grace who she is still best friends with today. I am not sure how or when my mother met my father but she became pregnant with me at the age of 20. Four months after her 21st birthday I was born. My father and her had many ups and downs and eventually went their separate ways. She became a single mother at such a young age.

A few years later she began a romance with one of her close friends. He was her best friend and quickly became a father figure to her first child. Nine year after giving birth to her first child she was pregnant with her second. She had her second daughter at 29. She lived together with the father of her second child and two daughters for almost 7 years before going their separate ways. Once again she became a single mother of 2 this time. She has raised her daughters alone to this day.

At the age of 40 she received some life changing news. She was diagnosed with breast cancer and had to go through surgery and radiation. Luckily, it was caught early and after 5 years she became a breast cancer survivor. During that time she also received some more devastating news. Two years after being diagnosed with breast cancer her mother had unexpectedly passed away from a brain aneurysm. She knew she had to go back to her home town immediately to be with her family. She left her then 20 and 10 year old daughters for a month. They understood that their mother needed her time to morn and be with her family. When she returned, she came back a changed woman. She became more spiritual and made health as well as family a priority. The next 4 year after her Breast Cancer Survivor status were also a health roller coaster ride. She had several heart and bone health issues including an irregular heart beat and tendinitis in her foot. She also had a rheumatoid fever, infection, and GI issues.

Today is her 49th birthday. On her 49th birthday she is getting a 4 hour CAT Scan of her GI tract to see if she has some sort of infection that has been affecting her heart. She will also be taken out for a lovely birthday dinner by her two daughters.

This is brief description of her life. The information provided is based on what I know about her but I am sure there is way more to her story that I am not aware of. This must be weird for some but my mother and I are not very close. We have our own person issues that were not discussed in this blog because I feel like that is more my story rather than hers. When it comes to my mom we have our issues but I love her regardless. She is a strong, resilient, passionate woman. Although I may not like it, I really am just like her. I know I possess all the great quality she embodies but I also posses all the bad ones. We don’t always see eye to eye but I still love her unconditionally. I am very grateful that she is celebrating yet another birthday with her daughters. This year especially I have learned how special and meaningful birthdays can be. I use to think ugh birthdays who cares, you are just getting old and closer to death. Now I am not like that at all! I think every birthday should be treasured. It is a gift to have lived yet another year in this life. Not only treasuring life but appreciating that you as a person were created and your soul came into this world is so important. Birthdays are precious and need to be celebrated every single year. I will conclude this post wishing everyone a very Happy Birthday  for this coming year. It is truly a gift so enjoy it.
